Time for Fun!

Well today kicks off our Spring Break!  The kids and I are so ready for a little sleep in time and to get to choose how our days go.  We have lots of projects planned.  We are finishing up the barbwired beauty's bedroom.  She will be so glad to get it completed.  I am ashamed to tell you how long we have been working on it.  Hopefully, I can post picks when we are successfully DONE!!

We wanted to get our staycation started off right.  Barbwired boy brought home a friend and we decided to do a project.  Every since my daughter was tiny, we have made GOOP together.  At one of her birthday parties, we had a Teddy Bear Picnic theme and made clear goop with small teddy bears inside for all the kids to take home.  Some of those kids still talk about there goop to this day.  Needless to say, that was probably 10 years ago.  Once my son came along, we certainly had to share the fun with him.  He loved it too.

So now we want to share it with you!

So here goes GOOP!

Doesn't it look like fun?

You will need:

Starch, white glue and food coloring.
We used three bottles of glue.
I did not know they had neon colors for food coloring, so we had to get that!

Preliminary warnings: roll up your sleeves, protect anything you do not want food coloring on and
for goodness sake.... do not worry about the mess! Yes, there will be a mess!  Fun but messy!!

First, dump all the glue in the bowl.

Get it all out of there.  This is the longest part of the process.

Now once that is completed dump in some starch and mix.
Keep pouring and mixing until the sticky is pretty much gone.

Now time to add in the food coloring, your choice. We wanted blue.
Mix it up some.  Then....

All hands in the bowl for some mixing and fun!
Here is your mess.  It will stick to clothes, but we did not have
any problem washing it out. The food coloring will stain hands, but
it also washes out really well.

Goop Success!  Enjoy the fun!

We put straws into it and made some bubbles.

Everyone got a straw and we had bubble blowing races.
Our barbwired buddy exclaimed, "I am having the time of my life!"

I would say that was a successful kick-off!

SIDE NOTE:   If you want to try to make the clear goop, you will need to find the glue gel.  We were not able to find it at any of our stores, but  I did find some here..

To store it, put a little starch in a ziploc bag and put in your goop.
We did this also to give our buddy some to take home with him.
(With appropriate warnings to his Mom)

Spring Break Blessings!

  2. My kids loved our stayvacations we did. Now they are older and it is harder, but they still love thing like the goop stuff. I think this will be a good idea when spring breaks comes up for our kids.
